“The Borrowers”

This roombox, complete with two one-of-a-kind polymer clay dolls, is part of the Texas Association of Original Doll Artisans’ traveling Storybook Doll show. The current group of dolls has been traveling the south Texas area library system, after making their debut at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas in 2006. The purpose of the Storybook Dolls exhibit is twofold; to interest children and adults in reading and to introduce dollmaking and miniatures to a new audience.

All items in the Borrowers scene are vintage pieces, acquired from estate sales and antique stores. The fabrics used to dress the two dolls are from quilt scraps dating back to the 1930’s. Old report cards and letters paper the walls and vintage everyday items “borrowed” by the story’s characters all add to the scene showcasing the two original sculpted dolls, caught in the middle of a knitting lesson!
